Session Overview
The party got to interrogating the sickly kid they had captured last session. At first, he refused to cooperate, trying to wriggle away from the party and attempting to spit on Amanti and Fanna when they tried talking to him. Mei asked for the child’s name, and he introduced himself as Jinli.
Thien stepped forward and tried talking to the child. Using Jinli’s closeness with “big brother”, and his desire to be more like the adults within the Tigers, Thien was able to strike a deal with the child. The child would help the party get a Maiden’s Bell, and the party would help him get his koi necklace back, along with some cookies.
Both parties satisfied, the party began their trek back into Thien’s home town to get cookies for Jinli. As they walked through the forest late at night, Fanna used the mysterious Ivory Orb in the party’s possession to cast Scrying on their Echo. When they did so, they realized the Echo was very close by, watching the party from within the treetops. As the party debated on how to handle this, Thien decided to preemptively shoot at the Echo. This alerted the Echo, and it tried to flee.
Amanti was able to illuminate it in his Faerie Fire as it tried to run. The party now moved to the offensive, dealing significant damage to it. Despite the danger, Jinli was protected by Thien, who even gave the child a piggyback ride as he chased after the Echo. After several rounds, the Echo ended up fleeing by fast traveling away. When the party ran up to where it had disappeared, they found a silver Koi necklace lying on the ground, just as Jinli had described.
The ecstatic Jinli quickly put the necklace back around his neck. Thien reassured him on how helpful he was, and Jinli elaborated on how the other big brothers—The Tigers—wouldn’t let him assist on any missions, despite his pleas. At this, Thien told the child how he could tell the big brothers all about how helpful he was once he got back to their base.
The party finished their trek back to Thien’s village, went to the bakery, and ordered several boxes of M&M cookies for Jinli. As he happily gorged on the cookies, they asked him on how to get back to the Tigers’ base. Though Jinli didn’t know of any exact directions, they were able to get enough information from him to hire a carriage to the Tigers’ base—A nightclub.
Thien and Jinli took one carriage, while the rest of the party followed close behind. After a long ride, in which Jinli fell asleep after having eaten over a box of cookies, the party made it to the nightclub. Thien took Jinli aside and instructed him on what to say: How Thien helped him find his koi necklace, and Thien himself had a sick brother who needed the Maiden’s Bell. With this, hopefully the Tigers would give Thien a Maiden’s Bell, completing one of their missions.
The party waited outside as Thien and Jinli went in. By this point, it was past midnight, and Jinli was quite sleepy. The Tigers inside, shocked to see Jinli, quickly scooped him up and asked where he’d been. Jinli told them how Thien “rescued” him like they had agreed, and the grateful Tigers thanked Thien. Thien took the opportunity to ask for a Maiden’s Bell, but the Tiger’s told him how it was an extremely regulated substance amongst them, and that they’d have to ask the Captain for permission. They said the best they could do was find another business partner who could try and locate one in the wild for Thien. Thien, not wanting to push his luck, thanked the Tigers anyway, and went to leave. Worried about Thien, who’d been so nice to him, Jinli fretted about Thien’s “brother”, but Thien assured him it was okay, and that he expected to not be guaranteed the flower. He then said goodbye to Jinli and walked out of the nightclub.
Outside, Thien reported on what happened to the party members. Luckily for the party, several of them had used several manners of magical tracking on Jinli, including Thien’s Hunter’s Mark. Using that, they started creeping out the nightclub, Thien keeping his senses open to the mark’s location. They found that Jinli was being led into the back of the Nightclub, then further down. Knowing with certainty now that the party would have to enter the Tigers of Nam’s base, the session ended there.
